On March 10, eight youth bands from middle and high schools in Durham, Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Raleigh will face off in the Youth United Battle of the Bands. The fourth annual event, held at Motorco Music Hall in Durham, is a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity of Durham's Youth United group. Proceeds will help fund this year’s youth built Habitat home. The show starts at 12:00 p.m. and the cost is $8.00 at the door. Pre-sale tickets are available for $5.00 on the Motorco website.
Habitat for Humanity of Durham is a non-profit, Christian housing ministry that builds, repairs, and sells decent, affordable and sustainable homes in partnership with people in need and communities that care. Habitat believes decent housing is a matter of conscience and action.
The Youth United program mobilizes young people, ages 5-25, to fully fund and build a house in partnership with Habitat for Humanity and the homeowner. Each year since 2006, Durham's youth have partnered with a very special family to make their dream of homeownership a reality. This year, Youth United members are working hard to again raise $50,000 to sponsor their sixth Habitat home and will begin building on February 18, 2012.
