Habitat of Durham home at 2901 Lutz Lane
approved for Silver!

Habitat of Durham received a Silver Level Certificate from the Green Home Builders of the Triangle for the home at 2901 Lutz Lane in the Hope Crossing neighborhood.

The Green Home Builders of the Triangle is a joint program of the HBA of Durham, Orange, & Chatham Counties and the HBA of Raleigh-Wake County and is affiliated with the NAHB National Green Building Program.  The NAHB National Green Building Program is a package of green building guidance, rating systems and certification, and educational tools for helping builders adopt green building techniques across the country.  The certification program has three levels:  bronze, silver, and gold.

The home, at 2901 Lutz Lane, was made possible with support from Burt’s Bees.  Burt’s Bees, with a longstanding commitment to both Habitat for Humanity and preserving the environment, built the first house in the Hope Crossing neighborhood in 2007 and is dedicated to ensuring the entire development is as sustainable as possible.  In Summer 2008, Burt’s Bees, working with Habitat of Durham and KaBOOM!, built a playground in the neighborhood.  The entire company took a day out of the office to build the playground.

The home is located in Habitat’s Hope Crossing, a 31-home neighborhood in East Durham which is the first affordable green community in N.C.  Homes in Hope Crossing feature energy-efficient and eco-friendly construction.  The green community plan features a perimeter walking trail and community garden, as well as a playground and picnic area.
